Should you build it yourself?

An honest decision framework. The maintenance burden, the bus factor, and the questions to answer before you write anything.

The short version

Building has become dramatically easier; owning has not. Before writing anything, answer honestly: who maintains this when the person who built it is promoted, what happens when it breaks at 2am, where does the data live, who patches it, and what is the plan if it becomes essential. If those answers are uncomfortable, buying is the cheaper decision even at a higher price.

Secure Software Development Framework

What secure software development actually requires, across the whole life of a system.

Why it matters

The necessary counterweight to how easy building has become. Writing the thing is now the small part; owning, patching and securing it is the commitment.

The full guide is still being written

What is above is the Hub’s framing and the best outside reading we could verify — useful on its own, and honest about being a starting point rather than the finished piece. If something here is wrong, or you know a better source, that is worth telling us before the long version is written.
