We cannot say which community lifelines are unstable

The reporting describes which agencies are busy rather than what the community has lost. Leadership is told about activity when the decision in front of them turns on whether people have power, water, a road out and somewhere to go.

Technology approaches

Lifeline status assessment and reporting

Assessing and communicating the condition of each community lifeline, its components, and what is being done to stabilise it.

Before you buy

  • Ask whether it carries all eight lifelines, including Water Systems, which was added in 2023.
  • Ask what a status colour is derived from, and whether a human decides it or a formula does.
  • Ask whether a partner agency can see and contribute to it without buying the product.

Impact and consequence reporting

Turning field reports, utility data and damage assessment into a statement of what the community has lost rather than what responders are doing.

Before you buy

  • Ask how uncertainty is shown. A confident number that nobody can source is worse than a gap.
